The null hypothesis states that there is no cause-effect relationship present. For Factor B this would translate to a statement that Factor B has no effect on the dependent variable or that the mean of performance in the presence of Level 1 of Factor B equals the mean of performance in the presence of Level 2 of Factor B.

The factorial ANOVA tests all null hypotheses simultaneously while maintaining the probability of a Type I error at a rate no higher than alpha.
