Degrees of freedom equals N - 1 in the related measures t test. The calculations are carried out on a single set of scores, each of which represents a difference between a pretest and posttest score.

Answer to Question 2

C
N refers to the number of difference scores. If the same people participate in both conditions, N equals the number of participants, but if there are matched participants, N doesn't equal the number of participants.
