The posttest only design is a between subjects design in which tasks are held constant across groups, and the dependent variable is measured after the manipulation has occurred.

The control group is equivalent to the experimental group in every way except for the manipulation of the independent variable and perhaps for their behavior that is measured by the dependent variable.
