Since January 1, 1999, several European countries excluding the United Kingdom have been part of the eurozone, which means that they use the same currency, the euro. This is referred to as a currency union, a form of fixed exchange rate, in which, by using the same currency, all of these economies are pegging their exchange rates to each other.
