Social capital refers to those formal and informal institutions that permit a people to live in an atmosphere of trust and security. Without it, long-term investments in economic development may be impossible.

Answer to Question 2

Disease and death, poor household hygiene, declining fisheries, time and costs of providing safe water, aquifer depletion and compaction, water shortage, and increased costs of water for industrial use.
