Explain the difference between assignment bias and selection bias. Which one is a threat to internal validity and which is a threat to external validity?

Selection bias means that the selection process produces a sample that is not representative of the population. Because the sample is not representative, it limits the ability to generalize the results from the sample which is a threat to external validity. Assignment bias occurs when the process used to assign different participants to different treatments produces groups of individuals with noticeably different characteristics. Assignment bias is a threat to internal validity because it allows an alternative explanation for any differences observed between the treatment conditions.
