A t test is a parametric inferential statistical test of the null hypothesis for a single sample where the population variance is not known. It is used for samples of 30 or less, when the distribution is bell-shaped but not normal, and the data are interval or ratio. It tells us whether a sample mean differs significantly from a population mean.
