Answer to Question 1

The IRB reviews all research with human participants to ensure ethical treatment. There are seven criteria considered by the IRB. (1) The IRB ensures that there is minimum risk to participants. (2) The IRB evaluates risks in relation to benefits that may come from the research. (3) The IRB ensures that the process of selecting participants is equitable and does not exclude, favor, or exploit any specific groups. (4) One of the main concerns of the IRB is to ensure that the principle of informed consent is being honored. (5) The IRB decides how informed consent will be documented (is a signed form necessary). (6) The IRB ensures that the researcher will monitor the study to watch for any unexpected risks or dangers that may develop.
