Answer to Question 1

Yes, Joe has quasi-linear utilitylinear in shrimp but diminishing in crawfish. This implies d2u/dC2 < 0. U(C,S) = u(C) + S where u(C) is an increasing, concave function. The slope of the indifference curve (MRS) is -du/dC. Differentiating again gives -d2u/dC2, which is positive by the assumption of diminishing marginal utility of crawfish.

Answer to Question 2

D

Chronic necrotizing aspergillosis has a slowly progressive process that, unlike invasive aspergillosis, does not spread to other organ systems or the blood vessels. It most often affects middle-aged and elderly individuals, spreading to surrounding tissue in the lungs. The disease often does not respond to conventionally successful treatments, and requires individualized therapies in order to keep it from becoming life-threatening.

Many people have small pouches in their colons that bulge outward through weak spots. Each pouch is called a diverticulum. About 10% of Americans older than age 40 years have diverticulosis, which, when the pouches become infected or inflamed, is called diverticulitis. The main cause of diverticular disease is a low-fiber diet.
