Why is it that people in developing countries move to large cities where there is not adequate housing or employment available?

The push-pull theory of migration applies in this situation. People are pushed out of the countryside by the lack of economic support provided by agriculture. They are pulled to cities by what they perceive to be better opportunities for education, employment, social welfare support, and medical care. They are often disappointed.
