Explain what a status is, and define the concepts ascribe, achieved, and master status.

Answer to Question 1

A status is a position a person occupies within the social structure. When the position is bestowed and not earned or chosen it is termed an ascribed status. Achieved statuses are those that are earned or chosen. A master status is a position that influences all other aspects of a person's life. A master status may be ascribed or achieved.
