1) Success  many goals achieves with much social acceptance; 2) cooptation  few goals achieved but much social acceptance; 3) preemption  many goals achieved, little social acceptance; 4) collapse  few goals achieved and little social acceptance.

Relative-deprivation theory is a structural-functional theory that argues that social movements arise when people experience an intolerable gap between their rewards and what they believe they have a right to expect.
