Answer to Question 1

Hunting and gathering societies are societies that use simple technologies for hunting animals and gathering vegetation. Pastoral societies are based on technology that supports the domestication of large animals to provide food. Horticultural societies are based on technology that supports the cultivation of plants to provide food. Agrarian societies use the technology of large-scale farming, including animal-drawn or energy-powered plows and equipment, to produce their food supply. Industrial societies are based on technology that mechanizes production. Postindustrial society is one in which technology supports a service- and information-based economy.
