Discuss the history of efforts to provide universal health care in the United States. What political tactics have been deployed to oppose universal health care? Why did health care reform finally pass now?

1. Note the various presidents who have tried to implement health care reform and some of the reasons for failure.
2. Explain the resistance faced by Obama in his quest to pass the Affordable Health Care Act.
3. Cite evidence to explain why you think it passed now and not all of the other times.

1. Outline the components of the Bismarck, National Health Insurance, and Beveridge models.
2. Compare and contrast their strengths.
