  A) People act to reduce the strain between what others think of them and what they think of themselves.
   B) In a situation of social change, a structural strain develops between the culturally prescribed goals of the social system and the socially approved means of attaining the goals.
   C) When social obligations strain the resources set aside for their attainment, people work to either increase their resources or lessen their obligations.
