Wally and his friends were out joyriding in Wally's father's car. He was stopped by the police and ticketed for speeding. He also had to appear in court with his parents. In this situation Wally has experienced one of society's social controls.

Jan really didn't want to become a lawyer as her parents wished, and Jan did not want to go to college as her parents insisted.
 
  Nevertheless Jan did go to college and would tell people when asked what her plans were, I plan to be a lawyer. Jan is engaging in ritualism.
