The text describes the income distribution in the United States from 1947 to 2004 . It divides the population into fifths. Over these years
 
  a. the poor have steadily gained in the percentage of income received.
  b. the top and bottom have stayed the same in income received, but the middle fifth has significantly increased the percentage of income received.
  c. all categories have remained approximately the same in percentage of income received.
  d. the income distribution did not change much until 1997, when the top fifth's percentage of income rose significantly.
