The three alternative theories from the contemporary literature are that(1) racial differences really represent class differences, (2) exposure to discrimination and racism in everyday life may increase stress, and (3)there are differences in the quality of healthcare treatment that African Americans receive. These theories all emphasize social differences that have an impact on a person's healthcare.
