Answer to Question 2

Beliefs about racial differences grew out of a context of conquest, exploitation, and enslavement and have a lengthy history of being used to justify power inequalities. Racial groups tend to be seen as a hierarchy with one race on top and other races relegated to inferior statuses. Racial categories tend to be imposed on individuals or groups by others whereas ethnic labels are self-imposed.
