Answer to Question 1

Geopolitics is the realigning of the world's powers since World War II. It includes a Japan-centered Asia, a Germany-centered Europe, and a western hemisphere with the United States as its center. Originally this elite group of policy makers was composed of seven nations and known as the Group of 7. In addition to the U.S., Japan, and Germany, the nations of Canada, France, Great Britain, and Italy were members. Russia was later added to make it the G8 and it is expected China will be invited to join, making it the G9. The goal of the G8 is to perpetuate their industrial dominance of the globe and to ensure that world conflict does not erupt, which would threaten their dominance.

Answer to Question 2

The first social revolution was the domestication of plants and animals. This revolution allowed hunting and gathering societies to settle down in relatively permanent settlements. The second social revolution was the emergence of an agricultural society with the invention of the plow. The invention of the steam engine led to the emergence of an industrialized society based on secondary, rather than primary relationships. The invention of the microchip has resulted in the emergence of a global society in which people can communicate with others in the world instantaneously.
