Answer to Question 1

Goffman describes three sign-vehicles  social setting, appearance, and manner. These are the devices used by people to communicate information about themselves. The setting is the place where the action takes place and includes scenery, or the furnishings you use to communicate messages. Appearance indicates how we look or play the role and includes the props people use to convey information by decorating themselves (clothing, hairstyle, etc). Manner indicates the attitudes we demonstrate as we play our roles.

Answer to Question 2

Interviewer bias is created when respondents provide answers that they believe are most politically correct or least offensive to the researcher. This may occur because respondents do not wish to offend the researcher. But in some cases, they want to provide a shocking or disturbing response simply because of the background or sex of the researcher. Interviewer bias only occurs in cases in which the respondent is aware of who the researcher is, which is most likely during the data-gathering process on the part of the interview.
