Answer to Question 1

Participant observation occurs when the researcher participates in a research setting while observing what is happening in the setting. The researcher spends time with the subjects in their natural setting, observing further aspects of their lives. Conversely, unobtrusive measures are used when the researcher observes the behavior of people who are not aware that they are being studied. To secretly record the behavior of people in public settings, such as on a crowded subway car, is generally considered acceptable. But this is not recommended in private settings.

Answer to Question 2

the standardization of everyday life, including the robot-like assembly of food, one-stop shopping at malls, packaged vacation tours, and short news blips
