The sociological significance of social structure is that it guides our behavior. In the classroom, the instructor provides a syllabus outlining what the course will cover and the expectations of students. It probably includes the professor's office hours, telephone number, and e-mail address. Class starts at a specific time when all students are expected to be ready to begin and ends at a specific time when all students expect the professor to excuse them.
