President Dwight Eisenhower stated in his farewell address that
 
  a. the colleges and universities of the United States could not exist without government aid.
  b. the high-technology research of colleges and universities could not exist without government aid.
  c. because of the huge costs of much research, a government contract can virtually become a substitute for intellectual curiosity in colleges and universities.
