Opponents of age-based policies argue that many elderly are financially comfortable, with retirement plans that offer them a comfortable lifestyle they enjoy. Opponents of age-based policies also argue that such policies may perpetuate ageism and age discrimination at the same time that they claim to be advocates for the elderly. This can occur because age-based policies can contribute to the misperception of the old as a homogeneous group with numerous problems not experienced by other age groups in society.
