Answer to Question 1

The Internet and the cyberworld have vastly expanded the possibilities for young people. Young people are freer to pick and choose that which they find acceptable and to shape the gender images available in this medium by what they upload to a social networking site or by creating their own individual websites. Sociologically, these possibilities are important because it means that the traditional sources of such identity shaping, such as parents or schools or religious leaders, have less control over the process. Nevertheless, such freedom and exploration does not necessarily promote positive outcomes since some young people will inevitably become immersed in online subcultures that promote negative and degrading identities.

Answer to Question 2

Sex is considered a master status because it has considerable social significance in all societies. It is a central determinant of how people view themselves and how others respond to them, and it frequently serves as a basis for social differentiation. In fact, gender inequality is an important element of the stratification system in society.
