A call comes in late at night for a sick child. When you arrive, a very distraught mother tells you that her six-year-old son has been having fits. He has been ill today with an upper respiratory infection and about half an hour ago began having seizures. He has had three seizures so far. The mother did not notice how the seizures started. You find the child apparently asleep on his bed. He is difficult to arouse. As you examine him, his eyes suddenly open and deviate sharply to the right, and he rapidly develops another grand mal seizure. All of the following should be considered EXCEPT:

  b. placing a bite block between his teeth to protect his tongue.
  c. checking blood glucose level and giving glucose if he is hypoglycemic.
  d. administering diazepam to terminate the seizures.
