Why are sterile solutions used for wound irrigations?

If the prescriber orders 30 mL q 1 hr of a 50 formula for an adult nutritional formula, what is the ratio of the formula to the water added?

Answer to Question 1

Sterile solutions are used for most wound irrigations to prevent and treat wound infections.

Answer to Question 2

1:1 ratio (50 of 30 = 15 mL) (15 mL of formula. 30 mL  15 mL = 15 mL water).
