Answer to Question 1

1

Rationale 1: After reconstituting the medication with 2.5 mL of sterile water for injection the vial contains 1000 mg/2 mL. To determine the volume of mL the nurse will complete the following:
mL/dose = 2 mL/1000 mg x 125 mg/ 1. Multiply the numerators (2 x 125 = 250). Multiply the denominators (1000 x 1 = 1000). 250/1000 = 0.25 mL.

Answer to Question 2

1.5 mL

Global Rationale: mL/dose = 10 mL/1 g x 1 g/ 1000 mg x 150 mg/1 . Multiply the numerators (10 x 1 x 150 = 1500). Multiply the denominators (1 x 1000 x 1 = 1000). 1500/1000 = 1.5 mL.
