Performance tests involve the use of a wide range of knowledge and skills over an extended period of time to complete a task or solve a problem under more or less realistic conditions. This kind of evaluation is important because it allows the teacher to observe the amount of school learning that has transferred to real-life applications. They measure what the student can do with what he or she has learned. Direct writing assignments, portfolio exhibitions, and demonstrations are all types of performance tests.
