Before placement, a student must be given a complete, valid, and appropriate evaluation. The assessment should include many cognitive measures, such as an IQ test score as well as nontest sources of information, and any tests used to determine placement should be valid, reliable, and administered in the student's native language. Furthermore, evaluations must be made by a multidisciplinary team.

Answer to Question 2

The constructivist approach to instruction holds that knowledge is based on individual interpretations. When alternate interpretations of knowledge are reconciled, a broader understanding is achieved. Therefore, exposure to individuals who have different points of view enhances meaningful learning.
