Author Question: How can I determine the number of valence electrons there are in a molecule? (Read 722 times)

Referring to the periodic table?
Is it true that the number of valence electrons = the last digit of the group number they belong to?

So C (carbon) would have four valence electrons since it belongs to group 14 right?

Yes, but that only works for groups 1-2, and  13-18.
