The teacher expectancy effect is the impact of teacher expectations on students' behavior. When teachers, either consciously or unconsciously, communicate their expectancies to students, students often begin to behave in a way that is consistent with the teachers' expectations.

Effective teachers think ahead about how classroom routines will be handled. They have devised strategies for handling routines such as taking attendance, distributing materials, assigning desks, and the like.
