Answer to Question 1

In Sternberg's styles of mental self-government theory the three functions that he proposes are the legislative style, the executive style, and the judicial style. A student with the legislative style prefers to create and plan. One with the executive style prefers to follow explicit rules. A student with the judicial style prefers to evaluate and judge.

Answer to Question 2

Extrinsic motivation occurs when a student engages in an activity solely or largely for the purpose of earning a reward that is not inherently related to the activity. Working for praise, high grades, and money are common examples of extrinsic motivation.
