Answer to Question 1

Witkin proposed the dimension of field-dependence/field-independence, which refers to the extent to which a person's perception and thinking about information is influenced by the context in which it is presented. Field-dependent students prefer to learn material using the existing structure in which it was presented by the teacher or textbook author. Field-independent students prefer to create their own, more meaningful structure, in which to organize new information.
