i know that there has to be 8 valence electrons for an atom to be (for lack of better words) "happy". but i know there are also different energy levels like the K and L shells, and i need to know how many electroms the shells can hold. I remeber learning this last year, but my i forgot and my teacher this year hasnt said anything about it yet.

I think you are talking about S, P, D, F

S can hold 2 electrons
P can hold 6 electrons
D can hold 10 electrons
F can hold 14 electrons
