Answer to Question 1

Children in the elementary grades reason logically but concretely. Therefore, elementary children would benefit from lesson plans that include logical concepts but would likely be confused by abstract ideas, metaphor, or allegory.

Answer to Question 2

Inert knowledge is the result of learning isolated facts under limited conditions. Therefore, information can be accessed only under conditions mimicking the original learning experience. The learner has trouble applying the new material to anything that was not presented in the original learning experience.
