Answer: If Iacocca celebrates success and fails to set any new milestones, he fails to take the company from adequate performance to extraordinary performance. Instead, he has a vision of abundance that will help the company stay healthy and competitive. One of the motivators is battling Ford for the top spot in U.S. auto industry, and doing it through innovation in design and technology. Setting up new challenges creates milestones and metrics by which the company can measure progress.

Answer: Student answers will vary but may include the following: Positivity: The company lost less money than was projected. 1981 was the year it was supposed to die, and it survived as a stronger and more competitive company. Costs and staff were decreased by half, and production and sales have increased. Vision for the companyit is on the edge of success. If it continues to work together, it can put the finishing touches on maybe the greatest chapter in the history of American Business. Symbolsthe tanks division was sold, despite it being one of the profitable divisions, to show commitment to cars and trucks divisions.
