Answer to Question 1

Teaching often involves strong beliefs about the value of education and of shaping students' minds, and about the important role of the educator. Teachers must use all of their persuasive powers, including emotion as well as knowledge, to incite and encourage students to learn. Teachers must also be flexible, in that they must be able to evaluate the effectiveness of their teaching strategies and alter their plans accordingly if their strategies are not working.

Answer to Question 2

Sometimes a series of experiments may lead to the development of a new concept or idea or a new method of teaching that is successful when it is first tried out. If it catches on before enough research is done to substantiate the initial findings, this leads to a fad, which further research may prove to have little value.

People who have myopia, or nearsightedness, are not able to see objects at a distance but only up close. It occurs when the cornea is either curved too steeply, the eye is too long, or both. This condition is progressive and worsens with time. More than 100 million people in the United States are nearsighted, but only 20% of those are born with the condition. Diet, eye exercise, drug therapy, and corrective lenses can all help manage nearsightedness.
