Duration is concerned with how long the target behavior occurs. The researcher records how long the behavior is emitted from its outset to its end. The target behavior must a clear beginning and ending.
Latency is concerned with how it takes for the target behavior is to begin only. The researcher records how long from the delivery of an antecedent stimulus (e.g., tardy bell rings, a directive is given) to when the individual initiates the target behavior. The target behavior must have a clear beginning.
