Answer to Question 1

Like any written composition, electronic writing can be scored holistically, providing a rating of a general impression of the quality of the work. It can also be scored analytically, addressing specific criteria, such as relevance, focus, organization, creativity, and other similar qualities. However, electronic portfolios and presentations require special rubrics that take additional criteria into account. They should also assess such qualities as the student's ability to access electronic resources, to locate and select information, and to interpret and summarize information from multiple sources.

Answer to Question 2

Computer-based environments let students demonstrate what they have learned in a variety of ways and using a variety of modalities. This type of flexibility almost always leads to more accurate assessments of what students have learned.
