Answer to Question 1

The three programs described on pp. 432-435 are Unified Discipline, Smart and Good High Schools, and Resolving Conflict Creatively. In one way or another, each program tries to teach students constructive ways to handle conflicts.

Answer to Question 2

Middle school boys who are not good students, and who are too young to legally drop out of school, may feel resentful about having been told they are inadequate and feel trapped in a humiliating environment.
