Answer to Question 1

A conference paper is less formal and more precisely geared to a particular audience than is a journal article. One has only a brief period of time at a conference to present a report; therefore it should focus on the most important aspects of the study. At a conference, one can also give reports of an incomplete but ongoing research project.

Answer to Question 2

Sharing one's perspective on a particular idea with others who have different views leads to adding to, deleting from, or modifying one's original position, thereby allowing one to build a more comprehensive and accurate picture of the world.
