Answer to Question 1

Answer: TRUE

Answer to Question 2

If a person follows any assumption backward to the most fundamental assumptions of all, he will arrive at one of two beliefs about the origin of the universe. The first is that humans were created by God who gave them the ability to reason. This is one of the ways that humans are different from other life forms. This is based on a central cluster of assumptions that God exists and that we exist. The second is that humans evolved from lower life forms that spontaneously occurred by chance over a long period of time and developed the ability to reason in order to survive. This is based on the assumption that God does not need to exist for evolution to work as the origin of life. Regardless of which premise a person holds, the starting point for reasoning is based on faith. In the second premise, accepting the theory of evolution as the explanation of the origin of life requires faith that life-generating and life-sustaining conditions on Earth occurred by chance.
