Employees who participate in self-managed teams develop a new sense of self-efficacy and power to make a difference in their organizations. SMT eventually began to decline as more organizations reported mixed results. While the idea of worker participation has remained as the kernel of truth in SMT, some organizations have found that other methods are more effective than SMT for some management problems.
