Answer to Question 1

Your first task is to discover why women are choosing not to major in the business school. The survey feedback technique may be appropriate. A questionnaire should be developed that is administered to male and female students at the college, both business school and non-business school majors. Questions should address choice of major and experience as a student inside and outside the classroom. The responses would be summarized by major and by sex, and shared with the Dean, faculty, staff, and students. The problem may be differing career aspirations between male and female students, or it could be a perceived lack of support for females in the business school. Action plans can then be developed. After developing action plans to attract more female students, MBO could be a technique for encouraging faculty and staff to meet these goals.
