Answer to Question 1

Figure 8.1 in the text presents the basic model of the communication process. The process begins when one party (the sender) has an idea (the message) it wishes to send to another party (the receiver). The sender transforms the idea into a form that can be sent to and understood by the receiver (encoding). The message is transmitted via communication channels to the receiver who then converts the message back into the senders idea (decoding). Once the message has been decoded, the receiver becomes a sender of a new message (feedback). Throughout this process, the clarity of the message can be distorted (noise).
