Job satisfaction refers to how people feel about their jobs. The two-factor theory distinguishes between working conditions (hygiene factors) and the work itself (motivators). Other theories define satisfaction in terms of the discrepancy between what people have and what they want, the job-related information received from co-workers, and the individuals disposition. Although no consistent relationship has been found between individual satisfaction and performance, there is evidence that links job dissatisfaction with voluntary turnover, absenteeism, and lack of organizational citizenship behaviors. Each of these affects organizational performance.
