Answer to Question 1

Social facilitation refers to the phenomena where some people tend to perform better in the presence of others than when alone, and sometimes perform better alone than in the presence of others. Their performance is dependent on how well the person knows the task. Social facilitation also suggests that employee monitoring improves employee performance only if the people know their tasks extremely well.
Social loafing refers to the free riding concept. When a group performs an additive task, individual performance will decline. While the performance of a group will exceed that of a single individual, the increase in performance will not be proportional to the increase in the number of individuals in the group. As the size of the group increases, each individuals contribution tends to decline.
