Answer to Question 1

Norms are defined as generally agreed upon informal rules that guide group members behavior. They represent shared ways of viewing the world. As distinguished from organizational rules, norms are not formal and written. Norms regulate the behavior of members and can be classified as prescriptive norms which dictate specific behaviors that should be performed, or proscriptive that dictate behaviors that should be avoided. Groups pressure members to comply with the norms, sometime subtly via dirty looks, and sometimes severely with physical actions.
